Use Your Mobile Phone & Twitter for PR!
By Ray Mckay of Media City Marketing Group
When I first heard about Twitter, being a Marketing guy and always interested in finding out new ways to interact for myself and my clients, I checked it out. When I got there and saw that it was a tool used for sending out messages limited to about a sentence I decided to skip it. I was thinking, "Why would anyone want to have people messaging them all day long about what they just ate or how they're waiting in line at a movie or ...?" So, I left thinking I'd never be back. Jump forward a number of months and after seeing people talking about "Tweets" and "Twitter" on various social media sites I decided to take a closer look and see what this new phenomenon could offer me or my clients. What's all the buzz?! I signed up and started to follow some people I knew. After a bit I added some more and occasionally I would follow the Public timeline. I started to realize the power Twitter has when I learned to connect my Twitter updates to various Social Media sites where I have accounts. Now, I can send a message to Twitter from my cell phone and it will update my status on Facebook, Plaxo and many other sites. So, I'm sitting with a client discussing an Internet Marketing campaign and there's a break in the conversation while my client takes a call. I whip out my cell phone and send a Tweet that I'm discussing a Social Media campaign with a client. Within minutes it shows up on Facebook and other profiles. Later that day I get comments from others on my Wall about my Social Media campaign. A couple of days later I'm discussing a Social Media campaign with someone interested in my help for their internet marketing! I'd say that's pretty powerful. It's fast, easy, no cost other than a few moments of my time and I can reach a pretty large audience of people interested in what I have going on. And the really wonderful thing is that they all have friends and they communicate and when someone needs what I have to offer they may just pass on a referral. Word of mouth is the best form of promotion one can get and Social Media makes it possible on a much broader platform than one's own personal circle of friends. I highly recommend getting onto Social Media sites and using them for normal conversations. Occasionally let people know what you're doing business wise and once in a while send out some Tweets on what you're doing. You'll be amazed. When this article is published I'm going to Tweet the link and it'll show up on my profiles. Couldn't be easier! Best, Ray |
